Altruist's marketing team was managing hundreds of email templates in Sendgrid — a tool powerful for sending, but limited for bulk operations and governance. Simple tasks like updating a legal disclaimer across all templates required manual, one-by-one edits.
The solution was a Retool application that wrapped Sendgrid's API with the specific workflows the team actually needed.
No way to search past mailings by content or metadata. Promoting drafts to production required navigating Sendgrid's UI template by template. Bulk copy changes — like updating a legal disclaimer across 80 templates — had no tooling support and took hours.
Built a Retool app with four core capabilities: search past mailings by subject, date, or content; promote drafts to production in bulk; delete stale templates with safety confirmation; and mass update copy across any selection of templates — with full change logging on every action.
The change log meant the team had a clear audit trail — who changed what, when, and from what previous value — which also satisfied compliance requirements.
What previously took hours of manual Sendgrid navigation became a minutes-long workflow. The marketing team gained full self-service capability for email operations that previously required engineering tickets.
